I’m a huge fan of HBO’s The Wire, and was told repeatedly that Snowfall was the heir apparent. So when I subscribed to Disney+ and Hulu, I was excited to begin the series. A month later, I’m halfway through the first season and it’s been a slog. The storylines are not interconnected enough, the episodes don’t really build off each other, the characters are quite dull, and the show doesn’t even have the gritty, urban milieu of shows like The Wire or The Sopranos. I like the character of Franklin but even his storylines strike me as too A to B and cookie cutter. Other Wire-inspired shows like Snabba Cash, Top Boy, and Line of Duty were at least entertaining on the first watch. Do things pick up after Season 1 or am I wasting my time?
