In 2005, McCarthy was the OC for a dreadful 49ers offense that was ranked dead last in yards and points. Somehow this led to the Packers hiring him as their head coach the next season. He obviously ended up being a good coach and winning a Super Bowl, but why did he get the chance in the first place?

He was also at the helm of some pretty mid Saints offenses in the early 2000s, but I don’t see why that would have led to him getting head coaching interviews.
