Courtesy of Bill Smith of Next Gen Stats, Thursday Night’s game between Denver and Las Vegas made history as just the second game since 1950 in which both teams had more penalties than first downs. Tonight the Raiders and Broncos each had 10 first downs and 11 penalties.
The previous game came back on Oct. 17, 1976, in the first meeting between the expansion Seattle Seahawks (0-5 entering the game) and expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-5 entering the game). In that battle royale, Seattle won 13-10, with the Seahawks recording 14 first downs and 15 penalties and the Bucs recording 18 first downs and 20 penalties for an astounding 190 yards.
