Talk amongst yourselves.

Due to me being out of town when an electrician did some work at our house, the Shaving Data System has been down for a couple of days. It’s back up now!
The worst part of this was my ADSB antenna which feeds FlightAware and Flightradar24. The FlightAware website gives you a stat of “longest streak”. Your receiver needs to contact FlightAware at least once per day to keep the streak going. Even when moving houses multiple times, I made sure the raspberry pi that it runs on got turned on at least once a day while in transit.
That streak is now over, and I’m starting anew. 2,561 days, or 7.02 years – and now I’m back to square one! I am at least thankful that I reached 7 years straight, and not 6.99 years, for example.
What did I learn from this? Well, I should explore BIOS settings to make my server turns on whenever power is reestablished. I should also make my Raspberry Pi reboot once a day – It never turned off because it’s on a different circuit, but once it lost wifi for a while, it never reconnected. I also need to create a fallback DNS for when my AdGuard Home DNS server is down. My other raspberry pi’s did reconnect to wifi despite DNS not working, so I could at least back door in and connect to them. Not the adsb one, though.
Oh well! The plumbing project that caused the hiccup appears complete pending inspection. It looks pretty snazzy! I’ll share a picture later.

PieFed (https://wetshav.ing) has been updated to v1.3. There are a lot of new little features, my favorite of which is you can tag people more easily, similar to Lemmy. Just type @name and it’ll give you a list to pick from. @walden@wetshav.ing for example.
