I was very bored at work yesterday so I was browsing a college football records site (the site if you want to browse too)and came across potentially (probably) the most dominant college football dynasty you’ll see, and I never see anyone bring them up.
Mount Union is a DIII university in Ohio. You might have briefly heard of them before in this sub when college football playoff season is going on. They’re usually involved. Looking at their stat sheet is absolutely absurd in every way. Some of their records and accomplishments are:
- Only 4 conference losses since 2000
- Only 24 losses since 1990 (less than 1 loss per year on average)
- They’ve made the DIII title game 23 times since 1990
- They’ve won the DIII title game 13 times since 1990
- They’ve won 10 games minimum (minus the weird covid year) every year since 1992
- 13 undefeated seasons since 1990 (currently 7-0)
- A .733 conference record all-time
- They’ve only lost 2 games in a single season TWICE since 1990
- 29 times they’ve allowed under 14ppg since 1990
- Since 1992 they have won at least a share of every OAC conference title except for ONE year
I knew they were good at the DIII level, but not this INSANELY dominant. I don’t think I’ve seen any type of domination like this at the collegiate level before, and I’d be surprised if I see it again. There are a few other DIII schools I’ve noticed that are close-ish (Mary Hardin-Baylor, Wisconsin-Whitewater, and North Central are the 3 that stood out the most) in that same timeframe, but still not on the same obscenely high level as Mount Union.
Hopefully this post isn’t too offseason-y.
