Presumably since he isn’t across from Darius Slay, Jaire Alexander, or playing Detroit in Minnesota this week… JJ should cross 5,403 receiving yards for his career. One of the greatest 3 1/4 season stretches in NFL history, and that is the gap from Jerry Rice (22,895) to the second highest receiving yards total: Larry Fitzgerald (17,492).
One of the benefits of watching JJ’s career explode and wow anyone who watches football, is the ability to try to explain to the youths just how incredible Jerry Rice was. Like reminding them that he set the single season TD record with 22 TDs in a 12 game season but broke the single season yardage record 8 years later (nearly an entire Calvin Johnson career).
Rice also had JJs career yards total (5,200+) in just the years after turning 37.
Assuming JJ keeps his TD scoring pace, and plays 17 games per season, JJ would break Rice’s 207 TD record 19.5 seasons from now…. When he would be 44 in 2042.
This ain’t a JJ appreciation post, this is yet another Jerry Rice is untouchable post.
