The only thing I was for sure on going into this was Stephen King. Even then I wasn’t sure what era of him it was. Reading up on it afterwards I found out the first two episodes are close to half the book.

Some people were critical of this & I thought the series felt padded. I for the most part enjoyed the pacing after the show turning on a dime. The deeper investigation into what was responsible for the murder seemed to branch out organically.

Ben Mendelsohn anchored things here in a big way. Ralph was such well-rounded character. I found it refreshing how resistant he was to the idea something supernatural was responsible. Also I was happy to see him play the good guy for once.

I loved how minimalist the monster was. The fact that you could almost make out a face but not quite hidden under the hoodie created so much unease & tension. There was a fair amount of tension throughout the series like the Jack & Holly road trip.

Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans deserve a lot of credit as well. Their score added to the atmosphere. There was one recurring cue in particular they used three or four times that just sent chills up my spine.
