Between the delayed release & some early negative comments I wasn’t expecting much here. I wanted to give it a shot though. I hadn’t seen any footage & it definitely wasn’t what I was expecting.
I thought it would be a story about a plucky underdog trying to become a hero. Instead it’s a story about a character with a bad case of PTSD with massive denial about it.
I didn’t think Riri would be so “any ends justify the means”. Her absolute tunnel division on trying to make her suit work as she wrecks the lives of those around her was a real shock.
It was a bit refreshing to see such a completely messy protagonist. As was the mix of a magical component in a what I thought would be just more standard super hero stuff.
I don’t know if we’ll ever see a majority of these characters again. So the fact that it ended with some fairly poor choices from them is interesting.
Sacha Baron Cohen also had a wonderful turn in the series. I think he can be a pretty capable dramatic performer. He really captured all the different faces that Mephisto presents.
