Because I’m unoriginal. Doesn’t have to be outright “reviled” so much as just episodes you seem to like way more than fan consensus.
- To this day I maintain the absolute funniest episode of South Park is Not Without My Anus and it’s not even close. Every scene with Ugly Bob is laugh out loud hilarious to me. Runner-up spot goes to Pip which I think is cute and fun even if nothing amazing.
- The lowest-rated episode of Rick and Morty on IMDB is the Numbericons episode and while I admit it’s mediocre at best, I’ll always have a soft spot for it as I had been begging for a Goldenfold episode since season 3 or so. For two others, Dan Harmon seems to hate the Vindicators episode and that would honestly be top 5 for me (only flaw is including Logic) and my absolute favorite episode is the Story Train one - although that one seems more polarizing than outright hated, I’m mentioning it because every criticism I’ve heard registers to me as baffling (“This is obnoxiously up its own ass with the meta” yeah it’s Dan Harmon), laughable (“How dare they mock the fans for caring about the lore” shut up) or outright asinine (“That Bechdel test joke was sexist” also shut up).
- Pretty sure I shared this exact sentiment in another r/television thread just a few months ago, but I really enjoyed S4E5 of Barry and the whole season is still my favorite. S2 and S3 had one “tonal whiplash” episode each and both cranked up the surreality, this was the opposite and it worked for me. It’s like if Gus Van Sant guest-directed an episode.
- The Seinfeld finale is WAY overhated and I think would be more fondly remembered had it not been directly preceded by an hour-long clip show (seriously, whose idea was that?). There are a lot of other episodes that I think are far worse like basically all of S1, The Betrayal or The Voice.
