Maybe I’m biased as a Penn State fan whose team would have made 5/9 of the 12 team playoffs so far if they had existed, but it is a great way to let teams get a redeeming shot after one or two close/quality losses. If you’re the best 4 teams, you still get your bye and the same road with the 4 team.
Is the NFL any less fun because of the playoffs? No.
Is College basketball? Absolutely not.
Is any other sport? No…
I just don’t see the downsides. It gives a clear path for 8 good to compete and still lets the top 4 teams have a better chance at getting to the championship.
