I was on a discussion thread a while back, talking about the idea of direct democracy as it relates to consent. I mentioned "two wolves and a sheep" to them and how the 51% has no right to force their hand on the 49%. They said that democracy was "assumed consent" because we all agree that decisions be made via majority rule - that because the 49% agreed to be part of the democracy then therefore they consent to the rule of the 51%. I felt concerned that they had misunderstood the basic concept of consent. Any thoughts on this?
