*This is a weekly thread to discuss football in the Big 12. Discussion should be limited to football in the conference.*

Week 5 Results
Winning Team Losing Team Score
BYU Cincinnati 35 - 27
Baylor UCF 36 - 35
#3 Texas #24 Kansas 40 - 14
Texas Tech Houston 49 - 28
#14 Oklahoma Iowa State 50 - 20
West Virginia TCU 24 - 21

What an absolute roller coaster that was. I don’t know if it was just some Disney Magic, or the fact that Dave Aranda was yelling and fist pumping after a blocked FG in the first half, but the team finally looked like they had fight in them. I’m not thinking this means that we’ll turn the season around, but maybe we won’t go 2 - 10.

I didn’t get to watch any of the other games this week, so I don’t have many comments. Good job to WVU. Texas survived their final (for now) in-conference Kansas test. And as of now, none of the new members has beaten any of the legacy members.

The last Red River Rivalry/Shootout/Showdown in the Big 12 is shaping up to be a very important game in the conference this year. Hateful 8 and all, blah blah blah, but I’ll be watching as a long time fan of the game. Lots of questions abound, as Vegas currently has Texas as a 6.5 point favorite while ESPN’s Matchup Predictor is 54.2% in favor of OU.

Aside from that, Baylor and Texas Tech are fighting to salvage any bit of a decent season. The winner will be halfway towards bowl eligibility, which seems impossible at this point. And I’m surprised to see Kansas is only a 2 point favorite against UCF.

I started looking for data to help me with the tiers since I can’t watch every game (especially weeks when Baylor is at home). I looked at data from CFP Resume Rankings. It’s a data driven evaluation of resumes mixed in with strength ratings, which is what I was trying to do anyway. Y’all might not care about it, but I’m programmed to give references. It’s not far off from where I already was.

It’s weird to have us in Tier 4 after being in the bottom, but having a conference win moves us up for now. Again, I’m doing these based off of both resume and “strength” ratings.

Championship Picks

You can call me hard headed, but I’m sticking with Kansas State as my pick for the conference champion. KSU beats UT in the CCG. I think Texas will be the number one team in the standings headed into Championship Week with at least a game or two of separation over KSU, but KSU repeats as the underdog.
