I was reading about Blue Bloods yesterday and looking at the chart. I hadn’t realized how badly Rich Rodriguez had done after he left West Virginia for Michigan. He went 86-60 at West Virginia but his last few seasons he won 11, 11, and 10 games. Then goes to Michigan and never won more than 7 ball games in a season. Same goes for Scott Frost leaving UCF after their “national championship” for Nebraska to only drive Nebraska further into the ground.

I know there’s also guys like Kyle Whittingham at Utah who have found success and never flirted with going bigger and are content where they are and just doing what they do with a good success rate.

The goal is always bigger and better, but it doesn’t always translate into success from a smaller program to a bigger one. Who are other coaches who excelled at smaller place and went big with little to no success?
