So this is a concept talked about a lot in both libertarian circles and scifi literature. It's a prominent concept in The Sovereign Individual. Basically, nation-states as a function of physical territory are not universal and have not even been the norm throughout history. Now in the internet age, this concept will die out in favor of "cyber states," nations of people organized online.

But are there cyber states anywhere online yet? Obviously there are no full fledged cyber states out there, but surely there must be projects out there, the beginnings of a cyber state? But my searches turn up nothing.
