When you hear statists complain about people wanting to gut the USPS or reform it, you'll inevitably experience the usual pearl clutching: "How will little Johnny send his grandma a letter at christmas?"

What these people don't realize is that they are unknowingly corporate shills. As we all know, the post office has operated at a loss every year since I believe the time of Jesus and kept afloat by the government. This allows them to provide bulk mail services to corporations at ridiculously low prices (if anyone has done any marketing, you'll know that mailers, if they are a good fit for your business, are ridiculously cheap and fairly effective). This also allows people to send cheap letters to grandma, which is apparently all the PR you need to placate statists. They feel that, despite even chewing gum costing more, we have a right to absurdly cheap mail (as if anyone has ever had to budget out christmas card postage in their finances... especially considering that you can hardly find christmas cards that cost less than $5 these days).

And of course the post office makes money off us without our consent. At no point can you tell the post office to stop delivering mail or even customize it in any way. They provide a direct connection to corporations to you with government subsidies. And let's be real: these bulk mailers are probably thrown away 99% of the time. What a waste.

As usual, government, without our consent, wastes our money to provide a service of which we don't want 99%.
