We’re about halfway into the season. Most teams have played 6 games at this stage. Looking across the landscape of college football at this time, there seems to be alot more parity in general, especially at the P4 level. It got me thinking about how conferences are pit against one another as much as teams. The constant focus on the SEC being the strongest…does it still pan out? There are folks who can do a LOT more analysis on these things, and I wanted to see what this sub thought.

Sunbelt 6-2 3-1 2-0 2-0 3-6 1-2 2-0 0-1 8-0 N/A

Let’s compare just the OOC records:

  • American = 65%
  • ACC = 68%
  • Big12 = 82%
  • B1G = 82%
  • CUSA = 43%
  • MAC = 31%
  • MWC = 58%
  • PAC-12 = 23%
  • SEC = 88%
  • SunBelt = 48%

Just based off of OOC record, the SEC remains the most dominant conference in cfb currenlty. The B1G and Big12 are right behind. The current worst conferences are the PAC-12 and MAC.

Comparing the teams with winning records in each conference (comparing the tops)

  • American = 36%
  • ACC = 59%
  • Big12 = 69%
  • B1G = 67%
  • CUSA = 33%
  • MAC = .08%
  • MWC = 42%
  • PAC-12 = 0%
  • SEC = 69%
  • SunBelt = 36%

The strongest top of each conference suggests the SEC and B1G are fairly close. The two weakest conferences at the top are the PAC-12 and the MAC.
