When Elliot took the UVA job, I was excited to see what a Dabo disciple could do with them. A program with a lot of potential, but not much to show for it outside some strong seasons here and there. After last year I wrote off Elliott as failed coach from the Dabo tree, but Virginia seems to be a genuinely strong team. 5-1 throughout the more challenging part of their schedule, Duke and arguably Wake or VT stand as the only threatening teams remaining.
What influenced this turn around? They went 3-7, 3-9, and 5-7 under Elliott with no coordinator changes. So despite adding a good QB in Chandler Morris, I’m surprised at the random uptick in quality from UVA.
