I think it’s fair to describe myself as a history enthusiast. I’m a sucker for history documentaries, books, and TV shows, both fiction and nonfiction.
However, something that I’ve noticed throughout the years is, historical and history-themed TV shows are notoriously explicit in their sexual and sexual violence content compared to other genres. Some examples include: The Tudors, Game of Thrones, Outlander, etc. There are numerous sex scenes, not to mention even r*pe scenes, and usually, they are given way longer screen time than necessary.
I absolutely love historical drama. However, most of the time, I can’t enjoy a TV series to the fullest because there’s just too much full frontal nudity/sexual/sexual violence scenes in these shows. The only reason I’m currently able to continue watching Outlander is because a kind Reddit fellow had posted a guideline of time stamps to skip through.
So, does anybody have any ideas as to why this might be? Also, I’m interested to know how other history lovers feel about this?
