I was arguing with who I think was a dickwad conservative about how the state steals from out generated income, and even if I were to provide fully for my own needs (food, power, water, etc) and owned my own property that I would still be taxed and forced to pay for inefficient services I never asked for. Then he mentioned homestead laws that gave you a tax exemption if you lived in the wilderness and I was honestly caught off guard. Can anyone here explain how that works?
