This isn’t the same kind of post that gets posted all the time where I say I hate modern shows and I want the old format back, but I will say that I would love a mix of both. I love what a lot of shows are doing now, but I still wish we could still have those old-style 22-episode seasons for dramas.

The dramas of the past that have like 5+ seasons and 22 episodes each season have a more comforting vibe to them. It’s easier to watch and enjoy and spend time with the characters you love.

But I also love some of the modern shows that are shorter seasons that are more like very long movies. Having a bigger budget and more cinematic, serious storytelling is really great.

I just wish we could have both. I know people will say there’s still network tv but all they really have now are procedurals and sitcoms. I miss my long-form dramas! Plus, I’ve been seeing some networks lowering their episode counts too, which is unfortunate.
