While watching BoJack Horseman (which I’ve now rewatched countless times—it’s my comfort show), I started to notice how much I relate to BoJack himself. I could always see how toxic and messed up he was, but somehow, I still saw parts of myself in him. Through his character, I was able to recognize some of my own unhealthy traits. His constant self-sabotage, the way he pushes people away even when he craves connection, and his tendency to numb himself with distractions or destructive habits — all of that hit uncomfortably close to home. I could always recognize how broken he was, but at the same time, I found myself relating to him in ways I didn’t expect. Through his struggles, I was able to start recognising some of my own — especially the patterns of avoidance, addiction, and the inner voice that convinces you you’re not worthy of happiness. It was confronting, but also strangely comforting. I do think that the show can be a tough watch and somewhat humbling if you have a similar character to Bojack ,but it was kind of a wakeup call for me and I would really recommend it if you are exploring your sense of self. All of the characters in the show come with their own baggage and traits which I’m sure most people can relate to in some way or another.
