We can go all day discussing individual coaching candidates, but I thought it might be more interesting to take a wider-lens look at what kind of identity fans want their program to take on moving forward.
I’m sure some people consider ‘identity’ to be just another buzzword, similar to ‘culture’ but personally I believe these words hold merit in college football.
We can point to Wisconsin, a program (once) known for a dogged run game that sought to control the lines of scrimmage, and the time of possession. These teams were built largely on unheralded two and three star recruits that were developed into NFL level players during their time in Madison.
Or Virginia Tech and the patented “Beamer Ball” style of play which emphasized impact plays on defense and special teams.
I’m particularly interested in hearing from Oklahoma State fans, as this is the first time in 20 years the program has seen major change. Are you all hoping for a completely new direction, or rather simply hoping to rekindle some of the magic that Gundy used to take the program to new heights?
And Florida fans, your next coach will be the program’s fifth head coach since Urban Meyer left. These failed coaches have left Florida football rudderless and bland. What direction do you hope to see the program go from here?
