The infamous Lincoln (CA) Oaklanders, who are not a member of the NCAA or NAIA, and whose losses sometimes garner wide attention as their 90-0 drubbing by Idaho State last week canceled this week’s game at the Davenport Panthers.

Schedule for tonight, it would’ve been D2 Davenport’s home opener.

Per Davenport, Lincoln made the decision on Monday and the contest will not be rescheduled.

While there is certainly sympathy for players and fans of the Panthers, the administration of Davenport had to know what they were risking.

Lincoln University is a one-building business school in Oakland. The school has been around for many years but they only in recent years decided to start fielding a football team as a way to get more guys on campus as they survived the pandemic.

All of their games are on the road. They use the money they get to cover the costs of the program to try and make it cost-neutral, while having those additional students on their campus. There is not serious effort to be better at football.

Typically, the NCAA and NAIA will rule programs like Lincoln (CA) “uncountable” so their wins and stats aren’t counted for any records or, in lower divisions, playoff field consideration.

Here’s the 2025 Lincoln (CA) campaign so far:

Date Score Home Team
8/30 L, 55-6 @ Lincoln (MO) (D2)
9/6 L, 60-12 @ Texas A&M-Kingsville (D2)
9/13 L, 34-8 @ Arkansas-Pine Bluff (FCS)
9/20 L, 90-0 @ Idaho State (FCS)
9/27 CANCELED @ Davenport (D2)
10/2 TBD @ West Alabama (D2)
10/11 TBD @ Alcorn State (FCS)
10/18 TBD @ MVSU (FCS)
10/25 TBD @ Prairie View A&M (FCS)
11/1 TBD @ Northeastern State (FCS)

The Oaklanders have gotten steadily worse with time (all road games):

  • 2021: 1-8, their first season ranged from a solid win at D3 Willamette to a 92-0 loss at D2 Central Washington
  • 2022: 2-8, they actually blew out awful D3 Hilbert, which is on a massive losing streak, and eked by struggling D2 Bluefield State
  • 2023: 0-12, but more competitive than in recent years
  • 2024: 0-11, wheels starting to come off, including an 88-12 loss at West Georgia
  • 2025: 0-4 thus far, plus their first cancellation!

Lincoln (CA) is now on a 28-game losing streak before finally just cancelling a game.

Now the more alarming question for opponents is: Will Lincoln (CA) continue to show up for games?

We’ve seen this pattern form before with equally sketch Ft. Lauderdale of the strip mall outside Ft. Lauderdale and others. Sometimes end up on a run of forfeited games.

The Lincoln (CA) players have better options: California has over 65 public junior colleges that field football teams (in the 3C2A), they churn out solid transfers to the NCAA at all divisions.

Schools like Lincoln (CA) are not helping anyone other than administrators of lower division school who want to desperately fill a home game at any cost and hope their fans don’t notice or care that the opponent is a sketchy business school.

Blame the teams scheduling Lincoln (CA) with eyes wide open, they are furthering this charade to the detriment of the sport.
