Welcome to week 3 of the 2025 r/NFL Power Rankings. Are you interested in ranking and support the silver and black? Throw your hat in the ring for the Raiders opening here.

What a week of beatdowns and upsets! The Vikings and Bears were able to bounce back after tough week 2 losses, while the Falcons and Saints put on an NFC South clinic for the ages. The Lions sacked Lamar 7 times while the Packers floundered to Flacco, what impact does a Cleveland upset have on the NFCN? The 49ers won a close divisional matchup with another devastating injury, how long can Kyle Shanahan keep this up? Which came first, the Lawrence disappointment or the Stroud disappointment? Discuss!

1. Bills 3-0 The Dolphins certainly put up a fight but it didn’t matter in the end as the Bills continued the undefeated season led by an undaunting offense that has scored 30+ points in all 3 games this year. With the big contract extension behind him James Cook has been playing on another stratosphere leading the NFL in rushing touchdowns. Not to mention that the Bills also have the best QB in the league. The defense hasn’t been fantastic so far this year but it’s been clutch enough as evident by a huge Terrel Benard interception against the Fins. It’s been smooth sailing so far for the Bills as they try to avoid a trap game against the New Orleans Saints.
2. Eagles 3-0 On this week’s edition of “crazy-ass stat illustrating how improbable the Eagles’ victory was”: The Rams had six consecutive drives on which they scored points. During that stretch, the Eagles had six drives where they failed to pick up a single first down. Put another way, the Rams scored six times between two Eagles first downs… and the Eagles still covered the spread. Shout out to McVay the field goal king (h/t to the great @denizselman33 for this ridiculous observation). To take a step back for a moment, there’s the good: Eagles are 3-0, relatively unscathed from the injury bug — sorry 49ers; there’s the bad: Kevin Patullo has led a less-than-inspiring offense; and the ugly: see above. For this blurb, I’ll zoom in on that second point. Why is Patullo getting the blame here? Well, the obvious answer is that he is basically the only new face for the Eagles on the offensive side of the ball. The offense came out on Sunday looking boring, basic, and perhaps most frustrating of all, conservative. Opposing teams are thanking god that Patullo is calling obvious run plays at 2nd and 3rd and long. It’s a long, long season, and they have time to figure it out, but, hey, maybe let the Super Bowl MVP air it out a little? We saw what that looked like in the second half, and that’s a reason for optimism, and the reason the Eagles will be hanging on to one of the top spots in these power rankings. Next up, Hurts goes off to face his demons in Tampa.
3. Chargers +2 3-0 After a once-uncharacteristic last-second victory over Denver, your Los Angeles Chargers are ranked #3 after three commendable displays over divisional rivals. NFL media and social spheres are endlessly raving about Justin Herbert “finally stepping up” and “becoming an elite QB”. The reality, of course, doesn’t lie in some sudden pogo-stick launch from mediocrity into MVP territory. The Sheldon HS Fishing Club President has been doing this his entire career, despite what anyone says. Nobody cared when he staged a 15-point, four-minute comeback while going 6/7 on 4th down in a win-and-in game against Las Vegas. Nobody talks about his eye-popping statlines, or his 17 game-winning drives since 2020 (only behind Mahomes and Allen). Yet, it’s difficult to blame them entirely, especially with Herbert’s receivers dropping every ball thrown to them, his defenses making opposing offenses look like the 2013 Broncos, his o-lines turning into pancakes, and his HC doing yoga on the sideline. Thankfully, the roster and coaching staff are finally catching up. Gone are the days of Herbert being the living embodiment of the Bugatti in a trailer park. Herbert, for the first time in his career, has an actual team around him.
4. Lions +2 2-1 HOLY FUCKING SHIT THE DETROIT LIONS BEAT THE BALTIMORE RAVENS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 20 YEARS. Had his breakout playcalling performance as Detroit’s DC, designing a defense spooked Lamar Jackson and the Ravens for 7 sacks and largely ineffective scrambling, despite over 6 sec of time to throw. Al-Quadin Muhammad had his first start of the year and turned it into 2.5 sacks and 2 TFLs. On offense, Jared Goff and company became the third team since the turn of the century to have two TD drives of 95+ yards (per The Athletic Football Show), driven by just a really stout performance from the two young guards Christian Mahogany and Tate Ratledge. Oh, and David Montgomery forgot we weren’t playing the Bears still and averaged 12.6 yards a carry along with two TDs. Next up is the Cleveland Browns at home for Detroit, who will provide a really nice test for the gelling offensive line.
5. Packers -2 2-1 There are no easy road games in the NFL. The Packers have been reminded that this week. OL was overmatched, special teams was doodoo, and too many penalties let the Browns hang in there to have a chance to make the plays to win the game. Flukes happen all the time, Packers have to go out and prove that this loss is one of them
6. Ravens -2 1-2 224 rushing yards allowed. 7 sacks given up. Absolutely manhandled in the trenches all night long. 3rd consecutive game with a Derrick Henry fumble deep in their own territory. League leading 111 points scored this season still resulting in a 1-2 record. Whole lot of shit to get fixed, fast.
7. Buccaneers +1 3-0 It’s a new day for Tampa Bay. Not just a rhyme, but seemingly a fact. While the against the Jets was on cruise control, with the Bucs up 17 points, this was a thought that occurred to me. Something felt… different. And a quarter of us almost having a massive meltdown… Yup, my thoughts were still the same. We just witnessed the beginning of a new era. Lavonte looked like an old man. Evans got injured, again. Our o-line is so banged up that I may be the starter next week. Bowles, a 61 year old man was so subpar at his job as a HC that they had to bring in a younger guy this off-season to tell him when to call a timeout, and when to go on a 4th down. And yet… here I am. Writing this positive blurb. In any other universe this was a game we would’ve lost. We haven’t started 3-0 since 2005 (some of you readers weren’t even born!!!). We struggle against back-up QBs. We are not good in the retro jerseys. We are playing a trap game. We were mentally down after allowing an insane blocked FG for a TD. We this, we that, we whatever… But we won. The mentality has changed. The new era of Bucs football is here. One that has Emeka Egbuka and Bucky Irving in it, among others. An era that’s going to be here for a bit. An era where “It’s a Bucs life” doesn’t mean “we’d find a way to lose no matter what”, but where it means “When the clock hits 0:00, we’d win”. Even if the opponent has a veteran kicker ready to head us into overtime. Even if the opponent just had one hell of a drive to take the lead. Even if the opponent returned a blocked FG for a tuddie. The new era of Buccaneers football is here. It will take a while for everyone to realize this, but I guarantee, come 2030, we’d look at this game and season and realize this is where the Buccaneers confirmed that the Brady and post-Brady years were not just a fluke, but they started a serious culture shift in this organization. And yes, we’d always… remember, the 21st night, of September.
8. Rams -1 2-1 The late game collapse and heart-breaking loss will certainly make Rams lore, but there’s still reason for encouragement. They just hung with the defending Super Bowl champs, on the road, who had completely dominated twice last year. Turning a page against the Eagles, even ever so slightly, bodes well for postseason performance. The Rams have issues putting two strong halves together at times, but they have shown to be unstoppable at their best. There’s a lot of season left, but this team looks poised to make a run.
9. Commanders +1 2-1 A game that featured a 69-yard opening kickoff return, a 60-yard run TD (longest in 7 years), a 90-yard punt return TD (first in 10 years), a Terry McLaurin should-have-been deep TD and all around complimentary football across all phases of the game… that’s just what this team needed after last Thursday’s disappointing performance. Save for a few self-imposed setbacks in the first half, this game was generally dominated by Washington - especially at the line of scrimmage, where the Offense rushed f…
