  • special note about WOTV: It is one of two ABC stations that serve the Grand Rapids media market. WZZM is the primary ABC station licensed to Grand Rapids. In the old analog days WZZM’s signal couldn’t reach the southern end of the market so WOTV in Battle Creek signed on to fill this gap. Even though these issues are less pronounced in the digital age both stations continue to co-exist and both are available on cable providers in the area. So viewers will see Kimmel.

  • special note about KHGI: The Lincoln, NE market is comprised of two parts: the city of Lincoln proper and the vast rural western part of the state. As such two ABC stations serve this market. KHGI serves the rural areas in the western part of the state while KLKN serves the city of Lincoln. Cable systems in the area tend to feature both stations.

Additional stations w/ Sinclair ties, however the status of Kimmel on these stations is unknown:

  • WICS Springfield, IL; KHQA Quincy, IL; and KTVO Ottumwa, IA. These are ABC stations that Sinclair sold a few months ago to a company called Rincon Broadcasting. Rincon didn’t exist before buying these stations, its founder is Todd Parkin. Todd was previously an executive at Sinclair subsidiary Bally Sports. What’s odd is that months after the transaction Sinclair is still listed on the copyright notices on these stations websites, Sinclair is also listed in the copyright notices at the end of station newscasts, and Sinclair still lists these stations on their website as being part of their portfolio. Usually when Sinclair uses a shell company there’s a formal agreement on file w/ the FCC outlining how Sinclair is operating the station, but that’s not the case here…on paper these stations are 100% owned and controlled by Rincon. So it will be interesting to see what happens here.
  • WLNE Providence, RI. This station is owned by Standard Media. A few weeks ago Sinclair announced is was assuming control of operating (but not owning) the station. Sinclair laid off multiple on air talent as a result. It’s unclear if this station will air Kimmel tonight since the transaction was so recent. Also, interesting little note to add…after it was announced Sinclair would assume operational control of the station Standard media announced it would sell the station to Rincon, adding more smoke to the “Rincon is a Sinclair shell” fire.
