I never played beyond high school and so the only thing I ever knew was, “put your mouth guard in” if they saw it hanging.

It’s such a minor detail too, that going back 25 years to being 8, I don’t recall seeing players without mouth guards in, when growing up. I also thought there was a rule against not wearing one, even in CFB?

Nowadays, I think I only see the QB and a couple of the big heavies wearing a mouth guard. Everyone else’s just dangles.

I could care less, they’re the players not me. It’s just something I noticed and wondered if other people have thought about this as well.

My questions:

1- why do players do it? 1A- wouldn’t it be distracting having it flap around, especially for skill guys making plays on the ball?

2- is there no rule regulating the use of mouth guards in CFB

3- when do others, if you’ve picked up on this trend as well, believe the change point was? 5 years ago? 10? Within the last 2-3 years?

Anyway, mostly useless information, but I like to hear others opinions.
