Dear Kansas and Mizzou leaders that happen to pay attention to this sub:
I saw it, you saw it, we all saw it, and we all want more of it. The fact that it took this many years to happen is a tragedy. Plenty of posts have focused on *why* this should become annual, I’m going to focus on *how* it could become annual. We are good to go for 2026, 2031, and 2032, so let’s solve the rest and then pick a permanent date after.
Things to note before I get into it:
- I’m going to focus on keeping the FCS games and instead replacing the toughest OOC games a year with each other, not because that’s what I want (I’d prefer to ditch the FCS games), but because that’s what I expect is an easier path to convince you.
- I’m going to try to keep any historic rivalry games, even if they are the toughest.
- Despite the goal of points 1 and 2, if there is only one date that works and I have to violate one or both of those to prioritize KU vs. MIZ, so be it.
- For Mizzou, I’ve got to eliminate two games per season since we are going to 9 SEC games.
- Rivalry games can generate 2-3 times revenue that the cost of cancelling an original matchup with a non-rival would cost, so these are all profitable ventures.
Solutions and buyout cost estimates offset by value in the rivalry game being renewed:
2027:
-Mizzou buys out SDSU and FIU.
-Kansas buys out Wazzu.
-KU vs. Mizzou on 9/11/2027
2028:
-Mizzou buys out SDSU and Northern Illinois.
-Kansas buys out Hawaii.
-KU vs. Mizzou on 8/26/28
2029:
-Mizzou cancels Missouri State (booo!) and Army.
-Kansas cancels Colgate
-They place on 9/1/29
2030:
-Mizzou cancels North Texas and FIU.
-Kansas doesn’t have to cancel anyone, if the Big 12 is okay with KU vs. Mizzou on 10/12/2030. If they aren’t, then Kansas cancels Fresno State and the teams play on 9/14/2030
2031: No need, we already play.
2032: No need, we already play.
2033:
-Mizzou drops SDSU and Army.
-Kansas drops UNLV.
-Mizzou vs. Kansas 9/10/2033
2034:
-Mizzou drops SDSU.
-Kansas drops UNLV.
-Teams play on 9/9/2034
2035:
-Mizzou drops BYU
-Kansas drops Virginia
-Teams play on 9/20/2035
2036 and beyond:
-Just confer with the SEC and Big 12 to find a permanent date to play annually going forward so no more scheduling chaos to get this important game locked down and we never have to deal with not playing each other again.
There. It’s done. See, was it that hard? You will all make more money, the TV networks will make more money, the fans will be happier.
