The theme of the show is exploring Millennial middle-aged life with a core cast of bar hounds that for some reason still spend their evenings barhopping the town. The main dynamic of the show is how bar hopping is socially chaotic and how different bars bring different vibes, so you can tailor each episode’s vibe progression to its theme.
For production sake, you’d have three bars. The first is a chain sports bar that closes a bit earlier, so the bar staff cast can then go drink at the other two bars, to reduce cast size. The second bar is a classic Irish pub with a long history, and then obviously a hipster bar founded by a FIRE (fixed income retire early) techie.
Every episode, the core bar hounds rotate through the bars in a different order, though usually the sports bar leads because of closing early. There could be episodes where it doesn’t feature at all, but in general every episode will see the other two bars fill up with sport bar patrons at some point. Sort of like a repeat gag that can give cadence to plot structure.
A couple of characters will be bar staples, like an old guy that only drinks at the Irish pub and is loath to ever hop to another bar (but accidentally eats shrooms one night and follows the cast around to other venues).
I like the idea of including more bars, maybe even IRL locations, so you have dozens of shooting locations over time. Major scenes are filmed in the studio bars, but little incidents and conversations, also B-roll can be filmed in other places to expand the scope of the drama.
All the drama takes place in bars. No apartments, offices, stadiums. Cabs and sidewalks are briefly okay.
