Original Title: Another great example of how flawed the Passer Rating formula is: at the end of Q3, Goff was 20-25 for 314 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT - 158.3 PR. On the first play in Q4 he threw an 8-yard TD pass to St. Brown. Due to dipping below 12.5 yards/completion, the TD pass lowered his Passer Rating.

To have a perfect Passer Rating you must do all of the following:

  • 12.5 yards per completion.
  • Average a TD pass every 8 attempts.
  • No INTs.
  • 80% completion rate.

Because of the way the formula is built Goff somehow lowered his Passer rating by throwing a TD pass.
