Hi. I have a random question and no idea how to research it properly, so I’m asking reddit.
It has always been fascinating to me the way different countries and cultures will adapt a show from one place into another
Recent examples of this in the US are High Potential which was adapted from the French show Haut Potentiel Intellectuel and Doc which was adapted from the Italian show Doc- Nelle Tue Mani.
Obviously when a show is adapted into a new language and country, they can’t just use an identical translated script. There are less commercials in Europe, they speak faster in French and Italian. There are cultural references and locations that have to be changed. TV can be a bit more explicit in what they show in Europe.
I have a strong language background, years of study along with cultural immersion.
In the industry are there people that specifically work with this aspect, figuring out how to make an adaptation work with a new audience?
