The way the season 1 finale ended was perfect. He finally accepted himself and told the audience directly that he’s exactly who we want him to be. And how he finally admitted for the first time ever that he needs other people. Not for a cover or to fit in but actually values them. That’s great character development. And now with nobody after him anymore, they can easily just treat this as a season 1 and build up to a new story with a mostly new cast going on multiple seasons. 4-5 more seasons of the show would be perfect IMO. Gives enough time to build up all the new characters and give the show more weight for the next inevitable ending.
I also really love the relationship between Dexter and Harrison. Harrison actually accepting his dad for who he is and even making jokes about it was very refreshing. We’ve never had a mainstay know about Dexter and accept him. It’s a really nice new dynamic, especially in the finale when Harrison goes on a mini James Bond mission to save Dexter. I really hope they do more with this next season. I would love to see Harrison more involved in the main story and see him help Dexter with serial killer things. I also think it’s so cute how much Dexter does love Harrison for real. Like he doesn’t fully understand it but he KNOWS that he feels differently about Harrison than anyone else in the world and that’s the most beautiful thing in the franchise I think. The writers did a fantastic job with their relationship.
I’m still so sad Dexter: Original Sin was canceled bc I was looking forward to having two shows every year to alternate. The more Dexter, the better. They already screwed their chance at the original finale, so at this point, just let the show have fun and let us have Dexter being Dexter. I could watch a million Dexter seasons and never get tired of it. It’s my all-time favorite show!
