Original Title: Hi! We’re Shirley Li and Sophie Gilbert, staff writers at The Atlantic, and we have reviewed many of the major Emmy nominees of 2025. We’re here to talk about which shows were worth the hype; who deserved a nomination and didn’t get one; and all things television and culture. Ask us anything!

Hi, Reddit! Over the past year, we’ve watched, reviewed, and reported on many of the Emmy-nominated shows, including The Last of Us, Hacks, and The Bear. Ahead of the award show on Sept. 14, we’re here to talk about which shows were worth the hype; who deserved a nomination and didn’t get one; and all things television and culture.

I (Shirley Li) have reported on why Squid Game’s final season lost itself, how Nathan Fielder took his show The Rehearsal to new extremes, and why we seem to be moving away from the concept of “comfort TV.”

As for me (Sophie Gilbert), I have written about the end of the Sex and the City sequel And Just Like That, how the latest season of The Bear is exactly what it needed to be, and how depictions of extreme wealth are taking over television.

We’re happy to discuss this year’s nominees; our reporting on anything television; and anything else that might interest you.
