Almost every streaming service that I use does a terrible job of picking up where I left off when I re-open the app. Sometimes it will send me back several episodes, even multiple sessions worth of watch time, for no reason that I can explain. Disney+ is probably the worst offender in my experience, but it happens regularly on every streaming service I have used.

What is the reason for this? It seems like it should be one of the most basic tasks of a video streaming app to save your progress, I almost never have this issue with audio streaming. Heck, I would even be happy to have a button to press to save my place before I close the app just so I don’t have to fumble around to pick up where I left off.

Was just curious if anyone would have any kind of technical explanation about why this occurs.

I’m not sure if there’s a more appropriate sub for this question, so happy to be pointed in a better direction!
