“you probably don’t even hear it when it happens right?” - Bobby
The entire last scene uses bobby’s line as the backbone for the ending. The entire scene uses sound to tell the last of the story (Tony’s fate)
Tony is flipping through the jukebox book looking for songs to pick | Source of sound : Music
Environmental sources of sound : Cooks patties “sizzling” as they cook the burgers
People “talking” around the diner The main indicator of sound : the doorbell
All of these sounds work in tandem to enhance the POV shots we get through tony’s perspective because this what anyone hears at one given time
Once tony gets “WHACKED” the sound obviously is all gone, all of it. Tony “hears the doorbell” for the last time but didn’t hear “it” happen. Naturally we don’t either.
This entire scene is working on the sense of sound more than the sense of sight. So yes, tony really is dead.
