Both House of the Dragon and The Last of Us are built on incredibly strong IPs with passionate fanbases. But after watching Season 2 of both shows, it’s hard not to feel disconnected and I know I’m not alone in that.

The main issue seems to lie in the writing. Both shows deviated noticeably from their original source material the books in one case, the game in the other and not always in ways that worked. The writing, at times, felt uneven or lacking the depth fans expect. Casting in both shows has also raised eyebrows, with some performances not quite resonating the way they should.

I genuinely want these shows to succeed. That’s why it’s frustrating to see them fall short of their potential.

Interestingly, while watching some behind-the-scenes footage from earlier films, I noticed how involved producer David Heyman was—he’s also listed as a producer on the upcoming TV adaptation. That made me wonder: could his influence bring some of that early magic back? I saw how director Chris Columbus shaped the early performances of the trio in the Harry Potter films with such care and passion. It made a big difference.

I’m not trying to be overly negative it’s just that watching The Last of Us recently left me underwhelmed. And with the upcoming adaptations, the comparisons are going to be relentless. Scene-by-scene breakdowns, side-by-side posts—all of it will be magnified by social media.

Here’s hoping the next chapters find their footing.

I would also like to hear what you guys have to say.
