You look at stories like this out of Portland and its clear the chaos never ended for Portland. I moved away from a city I once loved 11 years ago and relocated to Texas because at the time I told my family "I saw the writing on the wall".
I watched Portland develop through the 80s and 90s despite the absolutely incompetent leadership of Bud Clark, Vera Katz, and Tom Potter. I worked the early part of my career watching developers behind the scenes creating new developments in spite of the city Council throwing roadblocks at them at every turn.
And I watched as all of that fruited and despite the best efforts of the punks and anti-gentrification people and city leftists and Portland became the darling of America. It was where every leftist under 30 HAD to be.
And once I saw the influx of people who had more degrees than sense I knew it was time to leave. And current events are proving me right.
The city is now a hollowed out waste of its former self. I have even seen my old office on fire in some of the riot photos.
My retired parents who still live there describe downtown and the surrounding blocks as "like looking at a war zone". The Lloyd Center mall is dead. The Safeway in the same area had to close because of rampant crime and riots.
The entire downtown core is watching as businesses break their leases and leave permanently. Some of the biggest businesses downtown that I used to collaborate with have now relocated to business parks outside Portland city limits or they have moved to different states entirely.
Night after night of looting, burning, riots, shootings and just wanton destruction of public spaces because these leftists cannot create anything of value for themselves so they have to destroy and tear people down to their level of misery and depravity.
My favorite park is now nothing but a tent city full of junkies and once thriving areas of Portland are full of needles and feces.
In 2 years I am willing to bet real money that Portland proper will be a hispter Detroit. It will be a city without a tax base full of squatters and people who believe that a UBI is a human right and they will all be screaming about "white flight" of capital and homes back to Beaverton and Hillsboro and places that are actually still safe to raise a family.
But... this is what Portland wanted. They voted for shitty politicians. They marched with BLM and Antifa. They set fire to businesses and churches that were aligned with their causes and now everything is crumbling around them.
