1883 was surprisingly great modern western, using the oldie but a goodie of the wagons going out west to Oregon and trying to survive the constant hurdles and dangers. Sam Elliott is in his bag and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill was inspired casting, while Isobel May’s Elsa Dutton stole my heart. I thought it was a beautiful show visually making me feel like I’m on the epic outdoors journey.
However 1923 so far has started pretty slow and is probably my least favorite Sheridan I’ve tried as I enjoyed some others like Lioness and Landman. The wildlife hunter son (who I’m guessing becomes the Michael Corleone of the family) is interesting, the other son and his fiancee seems like a dumbass, and Ford’s storyline is off to an ok start with Jerome Flynn trying to steal his grass for his sheep. Then there is storyline of the native girl getting beat up by nuns which is the most boring part for me so far.
