Welcome back, you crazy football fans! A brand-new NFL season is finally here! The long offseason of hype, trades, and endless “what if” debates is behind us, and now we’ve got real football to talk about. Week 1 is always a weird one; no trends, no rhythm, just a lot of gut feelings and a little blind faith. I have a die from one of my kids’ board games this morning that I’m using… not even joking. As always, I’ll be dropping my picks for each matchup, backed by a mix of no logic and way-too-much overthinking. The only thing we know for sure is that surprises are coming, big plays will happen, and someone’s season will feel doomed by Monday night. I’ll be tracking my record each week, but for now, let’s just enjoy the chaos of opening weekend. Here we go!
Winner | Loser | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|
Eagles | over | Cowboys | The Eagles are the defending champs, so of course you gotta start them off with a win. They’ve got the home-field advantage and a super explosive offense. It’s the perfect way to kick off the season and send a message to the rest of the league, especially a divisional rival. |
Chiefs | over | Chargers | This game is in Brazil, and you know the Chiefs are gonna show up ready to put on a show for the international fans. The Chargers are looking good going in to the season, so this should be a great matchup. But it’s hard picking against the Chiefs to start the season. |
Buccaneers | over | Falcons | The Bucs have been owning the NFC South for a while now. With a veteran like Baker at the helm and that offense looking sharp, they’re going to be a tough matchup for a young Falcons team that’s still figuring things out. I think the Bucs will put up some serious points and get the job done. |
Bengals | over | Browns | With Burrow healthy, this is a no-brainer. The Browns are still a bit of a mess, and their defense has some serious question marks. The Bengals are looking to make a statement this season, and a dominant win over a divisional rival is the perfect way to do it. |
Jaguars | over | Panthers | This is a pretty safe pick. The Jags are playing at home, and the Panthers are figuring things out. They’ve got some good pieces, but they’re definitely feel like they’re not there yet. The Jags’ offense should be able to get it done without too much trouble. |
Raiders | over | Patriots | The Raiders are a popular “underdog” pick here. The Pats addressed their major areas of need on both sides of the ball this offseason, so this may go their way. The Raiders have some solid weapons and will be able to take advantage of the Pats’ new look and get a win at home. |
Dolphins | over | Colts | The Phins have some serious talent on both sides of the ball, especially if Tua is healthy. Their defense is underrated, and the Colts are still trying to figure out their QB situation. This is a tough matchup for them, and I think Miami gets it done on the road. |
Cardinals | over | Saints | The Cards are a pretty solid pick here. The Saints are pretty much in full rebuild mode, and a lot of Who Dats are just here for the chaos of it all and not expecting too much this year. Murray should be able to get a win on the road against a team that’s trying to figure things out. It’d be cool for the Saints to get a win in their new gold jerseys, though. |
Steelers | over | Jets | The Jets might have a new QB (and so do the Steelers… a former Jet), but the Steelers’ defense is no joke. Watt is gonna be all over the field, making life a nightmare for the Jets’ offense. It’ll be a low-scoring game, but the Steelers will find a way to win because of their defense. |
Commanders | over | Giants | The Commanders have a lot of energy and some serious weapons on offense that the Giants are going to have a hard time containing. The Giants are still trying to figure things out, even with Wilson at the helm. The Commanders take this one at home and get their new era started with a W. |
Broncos | over | Titans | The Titans are in a full-on rebuild with Ward starting, and the Broncos, even with some question marks, are playing at home. Their defense is solid, and they should be able to keep the Titans’ offense in check. This is a great chance for Nix so show off and for Denver to start the season with a win. |
Seahawks | over | 49ers | This is a disrespectful line for the Seahawks, especially since they’re at home. The Niners are pretty banged up, and their defense isn’t as solid as it used to be. The Seahawks have a new offense that might take a minute, but their defense is ready to go and will give the 49ers a tough time. Darnold is going to have a strong debut and lead them to a win. |
Lions | over | Packers | The Lions have a lot of heart and talent, and they’re on the road in a tough divisional rivalry. Even though the Packers made a big move, I think the Lions are going to come out fired up and get the win. It’d be interesting to see how quickly Campbell can get back into the momentum they had last year. |
Rams | over | Texans | This is a high-scoring one for sure. The Texans have a great offense, but their defense isn’t a strong point. The Rams have a powerful pass rush and home-field advantage, and that’s going to be the difference maker in this one. The Rams win in a shootout. |
Bills | over | Ravens | It’s a playoff-like game right out of the gate. The Bills have the home-field advantage and that crazy loud crowd. In a game this close, that’s going to be the difference-maker. I think the Bills get it done and secure a huge win to start the season. |
Vikings | over | Bears | This is a tough one, but I’m with you. The Vikings have some serious offensive firepower and a solid defense. The Bears have a new-look team that will take some time to gel. It’s a divisional game, so it’ll be close, but I think the Vikings get the win on the road. |
Those are my predictions, let’s hear yours. Keep it civil and fun. Like I said, Week 1 always feels gross, and I probably got a tons of things wrong. But I’m hoping you guys have some great conversations in here. Best of luck this weekend!
