A while back ago I went through every teams worst loss. It was really fun! And I feel like I’ve been hating too much lately, so why not, let’s just have a massive circlejerk where we all talk about the best games from our teams history. Wait you think that means I’m gonna be nice the whole way through? Oh you poor naive child.

I’m gonna try to be football objective about this while also considering how important said moments are to a teams culture and legacy, as well as how often it’s brought up in NFL lore. And some teams have so many legendary moments while others have so few that I almost can’t come up with any, looking at you Texans fans. I can’t win either way so please don’t be too brutal on me.

And for the sake of my own sanity I’m not gonna talk about any of the championships before the Super Bowl era. The game was much different and it would literally take me an eternity to finish this.

Without further ado, let’s go.

NFC East

  • Giants: Starting with my team because fuck you its my post I do what I want. And I don’t need to think about it, it’s Super Bowl 42 against New England. Dare I say it, its probably the greatest win in New York sports history, with its greatest play in the Helmet Catch. This playoff run in general was filled with magic but its ending is as close to perfect as you can get.
  • Eagles: I fucking hate the Eagles. So understand it’s taking me a lot to write this part. I gotta go with Super Bowl 52. A revenge game on Tom Brady and brought the first Lombardi to the city, while also having two of the most iconic plays in Philly history with Foles’ Touchdown reception and Graham’s Strip Sack. Alright that’s all I got fuck the birds NEXT!
  • Cowboys: Cowboys fans… you guys feeling alright? I realize right now might not be a great time to talk to you, but uh… well maybe you’ll enjoy talking about this. The best Cowboys team in nfl history is obviously the 92 team under Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson, the NFL’s Romero and Carmack (hope some of you get that reference). And this era would bring another chapter in one of the NFL’s greatest rivalries between the Cowboys and 49ers. And the Cowboys finest hour is the NFC Championship game against the 49ers in 1992, in what was ultimately the game that dethroned the 49ers as the dynasty team of the nfl, as well as the over 10 year revenge game from The Catch. From there on they won the Super Bowl and would win two more in the next three years.
  • Commanders: I really miss when the Commies were the worst team in the nfc for like 20 years straight but did you know they were really good before then? Yeah they had some coach who was really good his name was Joe Gibbs, might have heard of him he’s kind of a big deal. And he won three super bowls, with three different quarterbacks. Really take that in for a moment, just how insane that is. But for this one I’m going with Super Bowl 26, with what was probably their best roster in franchise history and arguably the greatest offensive line of all time.

NFC West

  • Cardinals: Very little thinking I needed for this one. The best season the Cardinals have ever had is 2008 with Kurt Warner. And the greatest win in franchise history is the NFC Championship against the Eagles. One of the most underrated playoff games of the past twenty years, alongside an all time amazing performance by Larry Fitzgerald. Just uh… don’t recall what happened in the Super Bowl.
  • Rams: So something that I discovered while writing this is that some teams best moments all come from the same playoff run. For example, the Rams. They beat the Bucs in the divisional round in 2021 and then would go onto win the Super Bowl. So the question arises, which of the two do I pick? I mulled it over and ultimately decided on the Bucs game. It was more or less the Super Bowl of that year because whoever won was likely going to win the whole thing. Stafford’s game winning drive is still imprinted in people’s minds today.
  • 49ers: Didn’t need to think about this one for a minute, its the 1981 NFC Championship game against the Cowboys. The beginning of their dynasty in the 80s and would end the suffering the team had been through since inception.
  • Seahawks: Very much the same thing as the Rams where the two biggest moments in Seattle’s history comes from the same season. The 2013 Seahawks are the best team Seattle has ever had and you’ll find very little debate about that. To this day people still rank them alongside teams like the 85 Bears and 91 Eagles as one of the greatest defensive units ever. So for this team I’m gonna go with the NFC Championship game against the 49ers. The game was one of the most physical football games we’ve ever seen and has what is still probably the greatest play in Seattle sports history where Richard Sherman swatted a pass away from Michael Crabtree to send them to the Super Bowl.

NFC South

  • Saints: This is the exact same situation as the Rams and Seahawks where both of the best Saints games are from the same playoff run. 2009, the year that singlehandedly distracts people from just how bad of a franchise the Saints are. And while many would pick the Super Bowl, I’m actually gonna go with the NFC Championship against the Vikings. In my opinion whoever won that game was gonna win the whole thing. And it’s the only time where the Saints defense actually showed up and bailed the offense out, with the biggest play being Tracy Porter’s Interception off Brett Favre.
  • Falcons: Falcons fans you don’t understand how hard I’m trying to hold myself back as I’m typing this, I’m trying to be positive. So for this game I’m going with the NFC Championship over Minnesota in 1998. This Falcons team was probably their best in franchise history, and they pulled off a massive upset over the Vikings who were 11 point favorites, literally bigger favorites to win this game than the Broncos were over Atlanta in the Super Bowl. But the Falcons shocked the world and won, advancing to the Super Bowl.
  • Panthers: The Panthers… uh… hold on give me a minute checks notes… uh how about the 2003 Divisional Round against the Rams? In what is now seen as the last run of the Greatest Show On Turf, the Panthers upset the Rams in a double overtime war of attrition. With the greatest play in Panthers history occurring when Jake Delhomme found Steve Smith for a 69 yard walk off touchdown.
  • Buccaneers: Once again a predicament of both of the big moments happening in the same season. Do I pick the Championship against Philly or the Super Bowl against Oakland? I can’t win either way so I’m going with the championship game. This was for all intents and purposes the actual super bowl of that year because of how badly the Raiders would self-implode with or without Bill Callahan screwing them over. The Bucs dominated Philly the whole game and would bring the greatest play in Bucs history when Ronde Barber picked off McNabb for a pick six.

NFC North

  • Bears: You know as I was thinking about what to pick for this, I realized something. The Bears and Jets history is pretty much the same thing. They have one year of greatness and everything else is total misery. So naturally, there’s only one year I can pick anything from: Super Bowl 20. I know Bears fans are tired of hearing about this but it really is the only bright spot in the franchise. The Bears had one of the greatest teams ever and throttled the Patriots for 60 minutes on live television. And then they created a dynasty that would dominate the league forever (I’m lying).
  • Packers: Many many many options here to pick from, I’m honestly just jealous. But the Packers most successful era came under Vince Lombardi so I feel that I gotta pick something from that. So I’m gonna go with the Ice Bowl against Dallas, the coldest game in nfl history. Including Bart Starr’s QB Sneak, which popularized the technique.
  • Lions: Fortunately for me, or maybe unfortunately for Lions fans, the Lions don’t exactly have a lot of big wins to pick from. So this is a very easy decision, I’m going with their win over LA in the wild card in 2023. I wish I was a Lions fan in this moment to feel what they felt as they won their first playoff game in over thirty years. And while they didn’t quite get a storybook ending that season, there’s still time to get it done.
  • Vikings: Not often do the Vikings get miracle plays in the playoffs. Don’t get me wrong, it happens plenty in the regular season, but not in the postseason. Except for one time, in 2017. With seconds to go, the Vikings need a miracle. The Vikings had one of their most brutal losses in franchise history against the Bountygate Saints, which is part of the reason the Minneapolis Miracle so great. For once the football gods actually threw Minnesota a bone and gave them one of the greatest plays in football history as Case Keenum hit Stefon Diggs on the sideline for a walkoff touchdown.

AFC East

  • Dolphins: Another very obvious answer, and much like the Bears I’m sure Dolphins fans are very tired of talking about it. It’s Super Bowl VII where the Dolphins pulled off a 17-0 perfect season. The unfortunate thing is that this was a very boring football game and the only play of note was a special teams gaffe that gave the Redskins a touchdown, which is funny considering that Miami could have ended their 17-0 season with a score of 17-0.
  • Bills: The “best” period of time for the Bills was of course their early…
