I just finished season 1, so please no spoilers for season 2 and on…

The final few episodes have the townsfolk trying to build a radio antenna because they heard some static on it in the office. This seems like a great idea, to try to reach the outside world and try to get help.

But why are they all thinking getting the radio working will get them home instantly? Even if the radio made a direct connection to NORAD and someone there believed them, they have no reason to believe that it will be quick and easy (let alone possible!) for outside people to trace the signal back to their location to allow rescuers to come find them.

And that’s even ignoring the supernatural elements of the whole series, which obviously adds additional elements like “even if rescuers come, maybe they’ll be stuck here too” for starters.

Clearly they should try to reach the outside, but everybody acting like they were going home the instant they powered up the radio just makes no sense even if you allow the show every magic element. (And even the very few townsfolk who don’t believe in the radio just say it won’t work… Not a single one says “even if it works, it won’t get us home”, which is realistically the most plausible result.) I don’t get it.
