I initially started watching Dave to see if it could scratch the itch Atlanta had left back when it had that huge gap between the 2nd and 3rd seasons. Since it was on FX, I was 90% sure it would be a banger, and I started watching the show as it aired till the very middle of S03, then for some reason I dropped the show about 2 years back without finishing it.

Then, a few days back, I remembered I hadn’t finished this thing and revisited my old favourite, and I can’t even remember why I dropped this dope ass show. The last few episodes only got better and better. In the penultimate episode, when Dave says “Don’t objectify women” to GaTa, and it right away cuts to a visceral and unnerving montage of the manufacturing of sex dolls in great detail, will always stay with me, and that episode’s end was just as absurd and sad.

And for the final episode, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Brad Pitt in a TV series since his cameo in FRIENDS. I have no clue how Dave landed the guy for a 45-minute episode. Pitt was absolutely hilarious, and the stalker gave me the creeps; her eerie smile and her pissing on the rug were both weird and yet were moments you couldn’t take your eyes off the screen.

Even though the show’s finale didn’t feel like an absolute finale for Dave’s story, all the characters had some closure or progression. I read there are no current plans for active development of the show, which can mean it could come back once Dave has more good stories to tell. And finally, when I look back, this show was brilliant, excellent Cinematography, tight editing, great off-beat humour.

I think a lot of people might be put off by the show because they first hear the absolute dogshit Lil Dicky produces in the name of music, and think the show also would be insufferable, but this show can hold its own ground. I love that this was so self-expressive, vulnerable, a bit cocky, and self-aware. DAVE is literally the best artistic project Dave Burd has made to date, even though people in the beginning used to call it ‘White people’s Atlanta’, Dave surely came into its own weird-wonderful footing by the end.

So, please do check it out if you haven’t already. Also, I started watching ‘The Vince Staples Show’ on Netflix, as I wanted another dose of ‘a Rapper and his Surreal show’, sad to say it wasn’t that good, maybe its beacuse all shows that comes in such a format gets inevitably compared to Atlanta’; Anyways, looking forward tio the second season before Netflix drops it before the third. Also, please suggest good shit in the vein of shows like this.
