Yesterday, I made a discussion post about NFL records that you think will never be broken.
Today, let’s discuss some records that you think might be surpassed by active players. I’ll start with a few.
Most Passing Yards in a Game (Norm Van Brocklin with 554): In 1951, Norm Van Brocklin threw for an absurd 554 yards in an era that was still largely oriented towards the run. In the contemporary era, a few players have gotten close to Van Brocklin. In this very pass-heavy game, it wouldn’t shock me if this record is broken multiple times in the next few years.
Calvin Johnson’s Single Season Receiving Yards (1,964): We’ve had a medium handful of 2,000+ yard RBs, but never a 2,000+ yard receiver. Johnson did it in the 16 game season era, which makes the record even crazier. Cooper Kupp got close in 17 games in 2021. It feels like it will only be a matter of time before a WR breaks it in 17.
Justin Tugger’s Most Accurate Kicker Record (89.103%): Harrison Butker is the player poised to break this one. It’s a big if, but if Butker makes his next 20 kicks, it would bring his career total to 89.474% thereby passing Tugger.
Terrell Suggs’ Tackles for Loss Record (202): Tsizzle had 202 TFLs in his career. Now this one is a bit of a stretch, but 38 year old Calais Campbell is continuing to play pretty well, and he sits at 187 career TFLs. He had 12 TFLs at age 37 for Miami last year, so the production is still there. If any player is likely to break it, it’s Campbell (who just needs 8 more to pass JJ Watt). On the subject of Campbell, if the stars align, he could also become the all-time Safety leader. He is at 3 career safeties. With one more, he would tie a few players who have 4. No players have 5.
