A guy stuck too close to me when I was sitting on the bus, it started only as our thighs touching, but after a while escalated to occupying half of my seat (not exaggerating, I’m pretty small). It took me time, but eventually, like jumping into water, I was able to tell him to move, though weakly… And boy, that made my whole week.
I was so proud of myself and it took several days for the high to die down. Fending for myself actually impacted me so much more than the incident itself, that I don’t feel bad thinking about it, it actually became a positive memory. I know that if I wouldn’t have done anything I would’ve felt so ashamed and disappointed at myself, on top of the disgust.
I know my words most probably won’t affect anyone, but in case there’s someone out there who needs to hear it: if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, jump into the water. It is SO worth it.
