Two that come to mind for me:
- Emmitt Smith’s All Time Rushing Record: Smith had 900+ rushing yards in 14/15 seasons and was productive as a back even into his mid 30’s. He missed only 7 games in a 15 year career. The closest active player is Derrick Henry who is 31 years old and 7,000 yards shy of Smith. Smith also played in a run first era when the game has now transitioned to pass first.
- Jerry Rice’s all time receiving record: Rice had freakish longevity even racking up a 1200+ yard season at age 40 (he had 2500+ receiving yards in his 40’s as well). Most receivers are lucky to last until their mid 30’s. Larry Legend finished #2 all time and even he was 5,000 yards short of Rice. For a receiver to touch his record they would need to replicate his freakish longevity and production.
What other records do you think will remain untouched? The only other one I think might not be broken is Bruce Smith’s 200 sacks.
