I know I know he’s a serial killer and all that, but also…. It’s a fictional tv show, so I feel like I can have a bit more leniency for this.
They tried isolating him in the season 8 finale, they tried killing him in the new blood finale. Instead of putting him in prison, I just want Dexter to continue doing what he’s doing while Harrison becomes a cop, and they can both be happy and free.
After all, there are like a billion more serial killers in this universe, so if he gets taken out or goes to prison, then who’s going to stop all of them? He’s probably saved hundreds of thousands of lives by now. Just let Dexter continue what he’s doing.
I know people are going to hate this idea, but I’ve grown too attached to the character and story for all that. It’s not like Breaking Bad, where it’s only 5 seasons every year that slowly degraded Walt as it went. This is an 10-11 season show (so far) with Dexter very lovable and fun the entire time. It wouldn’t be as satisfying, and I’m tired of people comparing it to things like Breaking Bad.
Breaking Bad was a much more serious drama-driven show, while Dexter is a more campy, fun character-driven show that’s inherently silly. It shouldn’t have the same type of outcome or be as serious bc Dexter is at its best when it’s a dark comedy.
If they planned it from the start and built towards that in the original final season, then it would have worked, but by now with this many sequel shows, I just feel like it’s pointless to try that. Just give us what we want. More Dexter and a good ending. He doesn’t have to die or go to prison. Just let him continue doing what he’s doing. Maybe go back to Miami at the end to come full circle.
Am I alone in this, or do others agree?
