Hey all, I’m kicking off this year’s Group of 5 Top 25 rankings, with a twist from last year’s system by using a CFB Composite Rating that blends ESPN’s FPI and Bill Connelly’s SP+.

Why?

Power Conference teams already dominate the rankings, analysis, and coverage. This project is meant to highlight non–Power Conference programs and give them a standalone spotlight week-to-week.

How it works:

The composite rating is an average of FPI & SP+. Both FPI & SP+ are “points above/below average team” systems, allowing for a more normalized review that doesn’t rely on a single system. Rankings update weekly based on changes in the Composite Rating.

Disclaimer:

FPI is sourced from ESPN, and SP+ is sourced from ESPN/Connelly. I claim no ownership and that this is just a fun way to track and highlight G5 teams using public data.
