What are some teams that quietly faded from prominence? I’m not talking about blue bloods that fell on hard times that continue have documentaries made about their fall and speculation about when they will be “back.” I’m talking about teams that went on a dominant streak that never really gets talked about, and it kind of just ended one day.

The best example I can think of is Stanford. They were on a tear from 2010 - 2013, took a little step back in 2014, won one last Rose Bowl in 2015 and then had 10 wins in 2016, 9 in 2017-2018, and haven’t had more than 4 wins a season since.

Stanford from 2010-2013 was easily the best program aside from Oregon to not win a national championship, and arguably kept Oregon out of the championship in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. I feel the Oregon/Stanford rivalry in the early 2010s was the biggest case for the need for a playoff (you could throw Boise State in the mix for this time frame as well for the heck of it). But no one ever really brings up Stanford anymore.

Who are some other examples?
