From Kevin Cole’s (former PFF data scientist) substack.

“Deshaun Watson’s 25 expected points lost to turnovers and sacks is a jaw-dropping number. That number is in the bottom 1st percentile since 2018, and he also lost an additional 5.3 expected points on non-fumble designed runs and scrambles, including two 15-yard penalties for grabbing an opponent’s facemask. Watson generated some value through the air, but was inaccurate generally (-7.5% CPOE) and hasn’t shown any signs of breaking out of his post-suspension slump. I’m not closing the book on Watson returning to the elite form we saw from 2017-2020, but if he continues to play this way, the Browns combination of trade value and contract given away to acquire Watson will go down as one of the worst personnel moves in NFL history.”
