Bruce Eugene was quarterback for Grambling State. In 2004, he was injured for the first six games of the season and opted to sit out for the remainder of the year. NCAA granted him a sixth year of eligibility the following year.
In 2005, Eugene threw for 4,408 yds, 56 TDs, 6 INTs, 157 rush yds, and 3 rush TDs.
Grambling State finished 11-1 (9-0), ranked 11th in the D1-AA postseason poll, and HBCU cfb national champions. Their only loss that year was to Washington State in Pullman.
Back in my middle school days, when cfb was shown on a wider variety of networks, I’d watch their tape-delayed games on BET late at night (I already know the jokes you’re thinking of to follow that last part lol).
Note: Some full GSU games from 2005 are posted on YouTube, however, composite highlights are harder to find.
