Holy shit what an absolute gut punch of an ending. I kind of had a feeling it would happen, that Vic was just too idealistic for this grim, cruel world to make it to the end - but the way he died was so much more brutal than I could’ve imagined. And with that, I think this iteration of the Penguin has honestly cemented himself as one of the GOAT villains I’ve seen on TV.

I think “villain” is the keyword here, because unlike other famous TV bad boys like Walter White, Tony Soprano, Don Draper etc., Oz is far, far beyond being just a dark and flawed and anti-hero. He’s a straight-up irredeemable, insane psychopath with pretty much no redeeming qualities.

I really commend the writers of this wonderful show to fully commit to making him a true bad guy. There’s no way to justify or understand Oz in the end - he’s just a piece of shit who only cares about himself. The final scene with his mom trapped in the penthouse, and his girlfriend role-playing as Frances was probably one of the most unsettling things I’ve seen in any superhero media.

I can’t speak Colin Farrell’s praises enough. Just a mind-blowingly amazing performance. Obviously the prosthetic work is incredible and it does a lot of heavy-lifting in making him look completely unlike himself, but the way he totally immersed himself into this role, with Oz’s unique way of talking, moving and gesturing is beyond impressive.

I would love to see this creative team’s take on other iconic Batman villains because they knocked Penguin out of the park.
